In Memoriam: Gus John Kriara
1924 – 2009

Gus Kriara, age 84, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2009. He was born December 15, 1924, to Greek immigrant parents Harriet and John Kriara in Portland.

Gus was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral.

Gus’ true life’s work was the his stewardship of Camp Angelos. Gus contributed his vision, leadership and more than 60,000 hours of volunteer time to the camp. He and his AHEC (American Hellenic Education Center) board have created a place that has and will continue to touch the lives of thousands of people for years to come. Last summer, the camp’s lodge was named the Gus Kriara – Kalamata Lodge.

Gus’ vision, independent spirit and grandfatherly presence will be missed by many, many people.

As Gus would have wanted, any remembrance should be made to Camp Angelos Retreat, 32149 SE Stevens Road, Corbett, OR 97019
